Law School Requirements – What It Takes, in a Nutshell apply to Law School

Mar 13
2010

Every law school has a set of requirements that I have identified as required by the law school that the minimum standards that all students – regardless of how the "special situation" – to do justice. In most cases, all parties in law school the same objective and the subjective, even if the quality of these requirements may vary from school to school.

The first law school legal requirement for almost allIs that students will attend a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university first law school. In connection with obtaining this level, students must submit a transcript of his future law school so the school can assess the students' grade point average (GPA).

Next, all future law students should be the Law School Admission Test (LAST). As with the GPA, variousSchools may have different rules regarding the minimum required LAST score, but requires that every school is expected to score.

The factors mentioned above are the objective factors that all schools use the right to assess candidates in law school. Fortunately, most schools have no right to make decisions on school admission solely on the basis of objective criteria, if your GPA and last results are exceptionallyhigh.

Many of the subjective factors are not requirements, but are two of the rule. These are the personal statements and letters of recommendation. The law school application personal statement gives students the right potential the opportunity to demonstrate their individuality, address deficiencies or other problems in its application, and of course the opportunity to demonstrate, in writing.

Similarly, letters of recommendation to give the Faculty of LawAdmissions Committee the opportunity to provide information on candidates outside law school to collect a person other than the potential candidates.

There are other subjective requirements that a law school to become a decision for admission of how issues of diversity and family relationships may be entered with the school, but these things are not required for admission consideration.

The issues referred to above are the School of LawRequirements, but the most successful candidates will attend law school, which goes beyond the requirements of the law school and enter the Law School Admissions Committee something extra. Increased opportunities to go in life, for the excellent, and when it comes to their differences in a law school is not so.

Major Depression & Disability – The Problem, The Solution

Mar 11
2010

I am a 53-year old man who has been declared officially disabled for almost a decade now. I never really cared much for labels, but if our society deems it important for governmental reasons to put one on me, then, indeed, that’s me.

I had worked for about two decades in a myriad of jobs such as sales, marketing, public relations, media production and the like. It was difficult for me to keep a job as I had depression, at least that is what I was “labeled” to have. I had been treated with antidepressants and talk therapy for many years but was not getting better. Finally, I was told I could not work, that “I was too depressed”.

Now I had a lot of time on my hands so I began studying depression. It did not take me long to discover a disease called “TRD” or labeled by the psychiatric community, “treatment resistant depression”. I was one of the few lucky ones who received the only treatment for it, a vagus nerve implant. You see, TRD is actually not a mental illness, in and of itself, but a faulty vagus nerve, of which I had, will mimic the signs of depression, lethargy, etc. After I received the treatment, my life took dramatic changes.

Though I am still labeled “disabled” by many, I have found that the Internet has leveled the playing field. I say that a bit facetiously and with a bit of sarcasm, because, during my “depressed state”, I was keenly aware of the discrimination targeted my way, though those who were being discriminating were not aware of my awareness. I guess they thought people with depression or any disability don’t have awareness or intelligence. We do.

So I thought it was the end of the world when my work days in corporate America came to an end.

How would I ever survive on disability? I did. One learns to adjust. But there are some painful growth moments in that adjustment. But it was all worth it.

With extra time on my hands, I learned to “nearly master” the Internet. I started a cartoon project with no money, Londons Times Cartoons which in less than a decade became the most visited offbeat cartoon site on the Internet (and still is). It’s rankings keep growing and by the end of this month we will have had 9 million visitors within the past two years. That may not sound like much but for a cartoon site it is. Most cartoons on the Internet last from 3-6 months and the others are gone within a year.

I opened two cartoon gift mega-stores and six niche funny gift shops. Sales remain brisk. I have affiliates through my manufacturer 3drose, many of them on Amazon and they sell plenty as well.

I create all sorts of products with my cartoons on them; greeting cards, t-shirts, jogging suits, mouse pads, coffee mugs, beer steins, wall and desk clock, baseball caps, and, you name it, we make it.

All this is due to research on the Internet and making phone calls. Oddly enough, a disabled person, and that person is me, can write a lucid, professional email, talk on the phone professionally, create a social network and blog professionally, and write articles, hopefully professionally. The old boy network, who was once so involved in keeping a stigma attached to depression and/or disability is out of the picture now. I have no excuses anymore not to succeed. I deal with people who want me to succeed, and it helps them succeed.

When I create a new cartoon product, I generally create at least ten new jobs from artistry, to manufacturing, to drop-shipping, to heat press digital reproduction, to courier, etc. And I do it all

from my home.

Oh, and this disabled person (that is, me) finished three years of business college online, at an accredited university at age 52. I am 53 now and plan to return next year to finish and go for an MBA.

Again, on the Internet. Why waste time with people who are more concerned with “labeling” me so as to put parameters on my limitations, than those who know me just as a person and helping me succeed.

I am not saying a depressed or disabled person should hide behind his or her computer all day, I spend plenty of time interacting with people, handing out business cards, going on talk shows, and doing as much as I can in the public.

Labeling is a bad thing. Have you ever noticed that a person with a mental illness or physical disability is the only person labeled by his illness or disease? If a person has cancer, we don’t say “He’s cancerous”, or if a person has diabetes, I’ve yet to hear, “There goes Mr. High Blood Sugar!”. But if a person has depression, 100% of the time “He/she’s depressed” or “has depression” or “mental illness”. That usually puts an end to the conversation as the stigma remains and many don’t want to know much more. That is ashamed.

It might do them good to go to some of the famous people with depression websites such as

[http://www.geocities.com/coverbridge2k/artsci/famous_people_depression.html] , or http://www.angelfire.com/mn2/illstandbyyou/famous.html . I am always surprised to see my name on each of the pages. There are hundreds of them; simply google “famous people with depression”. My name sits right there usually next to Abraham Lincoln or Elton John.

So you see, depression is considered a disability. But when you read the names on these websites and see who is or was depressed, it truly makes you wonder, first, why there is such a negative connotation attached to the label, and secondly, why the label even exists.

Eating Disorders – Bulimia, Compulsive Eating, Binge Eating and Anorexia

Mar 10
2010

Eating Disorders can include any behaviours from food aversion, bulimia, anorexia to bingeing or over-eating specific foods or any food and often they require longer term psychotherapy.

Anyone can develop an eating disorder, regardless of age, sex, culture or race, although the people most likely to be affected tend to be young women, particularly between the ages of 15-25. It is not unusual, however, for an eating disorder to appear in middle age.

Food becomes a problem when it is used to help cope with painful situations or feelings, or to relieve stress without people realising it. Research shown genetic make-up may have a small impact on the development of an eating disorder as can the attitudes of other family members towards food. In situations where there are high academic expectations, family issues or social pressures, focusing on food and eating can be a way of coping with these stresses.

Anorexia: People with this condition develop a fear of fatness going far beyond that of most dieters. The need to control their weight dominates all other emotions and food becomes the central issue of their lives.

Bulimia: also develops from an obsessive desire to be thin. However, instead of not eating, the person alternates between frantic binging and drastic purging (by self-induced vomiting and/or the abuse of laxatives and diuretics) or periods of excessive fasting and exercise.

This can lead to an irregular heartbeat, kidney damage & tooth enamel erosion.

Compulsive Eating: differs from bulimia; after binge eating, people don’t try to get rid of what they’ve eaten. Some feel powerless to control their desire to keep ‘comfort eating’ & they may develop overweight related health problems.

Binge Eating: includes an obsession with weight and shape. Exercising and the use of vomiting and laxatives to reduce weight are often major elements. Other signs before a person loses a dramatic amount of body weight include:

-failure to notice or be satisfied with the result of exercise

-avoiding food high in carbohydrates

-low mood

-menstrual cycle becomes irregular or ceases

-lack of interest in sex

Both men and women living with Binge Eating Disorder suffer a combination of symptoms similar to those of Compulsive Overeaters and Bulimia. They periodically go on large binges, eating unusually large quantities of food very fast & uncontrollably, until they are uncomfortably full. Their weight is usually above average & they tend to find it harder losing weight and maintaining it. Unlike Bulimia, they don’t purge following a Binge episode.

Reasons can be similar to those of Compulsive Overeating; a way to hide from emotions, to fill an emotional void and to cope with daily stresses and problems. Binging can be used as a way to keep people away, to subconsciously maintain an overweight appearance to cater to society’s stigma “if I’m fat, no one will like me,” as each person suffering may feel undeserving of love. As with Bulimia, Binge Eating can also be used as self-punishment for doing “bad” things, or for feeling badly about themselves. Sufferers are at risk of heart attack, high blood-pressure and cholesterol, kidney disease and/or failure, arthritis and bone deterioration, and stroke.

In our society today, people are unduly influenced to be slim or considered “successful” in their life & love by the media and the fashion industry. People can mistake the desire for adulation from others as an end in itself, wanting to be admired and seen by others as being something they may not genuinely feel they are. The belief that image is all important rather than the integrity of the person often needs exploring and the Counsellor or Therapist can help people in challenging some of these “hard-wired” beliefs.

Eating disorders often result from a combination of many factors; events, feelings or pressures leading to a feeling of inability to cope including low self-esteem, family relationships, problems with friends, the death of someone special, problems at work, school, college or at university, lack of confidence, sexual or emotional abuse.

Building a strong relationship with the person to help them discover their genuine feelings, explore ways to help them express them appropriately, to substitute healthier behaviours and build their self esteem is the foundation of helping with Eating Disorders.

This often means longer term therapy (including Dialectic Behaviour Therapy) which would typically last between 12 and 20 sessions. It can take time to enable the person to become comfortable with investigating and accepting their true feelings, to build a firm foundation of self-esteem and to slowly make long lasting changes for the better.

5 Leading Online Schools

Mar 10
2010

The internet has revolutionized many parts of our economy. You can shop, meet people online and, now, you can take college courses for credit. Five schools are influencing “distance learning” like no others before them. Let’s take a look at online education providers as offered by these leading schools.

The University of Phoenix was among the first accredited universities to provide college degree programs via the internet. Founded in 1976, the university began to offer internet degree programs in 1989. The program has grown to where 150,000 students are in the process of pursuing degrees on the Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral level at any given time. Programs in Technology, Business, Education, Nursing, and Management are offered and The University of Phoenix has now become the largest private university in the US.

DeVry University offers business and technology degrees on the undergraduate and graduate level. In addition, the school offers graduate level certificate programs. Headquartered in Illinois, the school allows students to work on their degree while online, at a local campus, or both. Indeed, campuses can now be found in 21 states as well as in Alberta, Canada.

Westwood College traces its roots to Denver, Colorado where it was founded in 1953 as the Denver Institute of Technology. Fifteen campuses in California, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, and Texas comprise the physical campus with the internet opening up the school to students around the world. Westwood offers programs in Aviation, Business, Criminal Justice, Design, Technology, Health Sciences, and Industrial Sciences.

Kaplan University is a wholly owned company of The Washington Post Company, a publisher of one the nation’s leading newspapers, The Washington Post. Kaplan’s offerings include degrees in Arts and Science, Business, Criminal Justice, Education, Technology and Design, Nursing and Health Care, Paralegal Studies, and Financial Planning. The school offers students degrees on the Associates, Bachelors, and Masters levels as well as certificates for certain programs.

Founded in Naples, Florida in 1970 by a couple who wanted to offer a way for working adults to pursue doctoral degrees, Walden University has evolved into a large, online university offering students degrees on the Bachelors, Masters, and Doctoral level. Now headquartered in Minneapolis, the university features five distinct schools: School of Education, School of Management, School of Health and Human Services, School of Psychology, and the NTU School of Engineering and Applied Science.

Online education is not for everyone and that is why the first three universities give to their students the option to study on campus, while the last two are strictly internet based. However, all five schools offer to students something that traditional programs do not have: the opportunity to pursue a degree at a pace the student determines and at a place [your computer] that is appealing to many. Unquestionably, online education has arrived as a viable alternative for degree seeking students around the world.

In some cases, physical therapy universities do extend undergraduate studies so students can complete necessary academics for acceptance into one of these graduate/post-graduate courses.

Currently there are over 200 accredited physical therapy programs at physical therapy universities, colleges and schools throughout the United States. Accreditation is important as graduates must attain this formal education in order to earn eligibility to take the national licensing examination. (Licensure is required by all States in the U.S.)

Depending on which course of study you choose to pursue, there are at least 31 accredited Master of Physical Therapy programs, as well as over 170 Doctor of Physical Therapy degree programs available through physical therapy universities and colleges today, which makes earning a degree both convenient and readily accessible.

Why Does Attending An Accredited Online College Matter?

Mar 07
2010

Since the US does not have a special cabinet or department that monitors postsecondary education, accreditation was created so students could learn more about the quality of education they would receive when attending certain colleges and universities.

Accreditation is awarded to postsecondary schools by various agencies, both regional and national, that have their own requirements schools must pass in order to consider themselves accredited. A short list of these agencies includes the following:

Middle States Association of Colleges and Universities, Commission on Higher Education
New England Association of Colleges and Universities, Commission Institutions on Higher Education
New England Association of Colleges and Universities, Commission on Technical and Career Institutions
Distance Learning and Training Council, Accrediting Commission

When looking for an online degree program, one way to judge the level of education you will receive is to look for agencies that have accredited the institution or the program and visit their websites to see which criteria they’ve used to determine the program’s worth or if the institution is accredited at all. An accredited online degree can help employers and others validate the education you’ve received.

How Does an Online Program Become Accredited?

According to the Distance Education and Training Council 2008 accreditation handbook, institutions seeking accreditation from this agency must provide the following information in order to be considered:

Clearly outlined mission statement
Program curriculum, outlines and objectives
Instructional materials and testing materials
Curriculum for online study
Study instructions
Learning resources
Student affairs materials (distance learning)
Evidence of adequate record keeping
Student surveys
Faculty and administration background information

As you can see, becoming accredited by an accreditation agency is a rigorous process. Programs that become accredited have proven they are worthy teaching institutions.

Don’t be fooled to choose a Non-Accredited Online Program

If you decide to transfer to another college after completing your degree, most colleges and universities will only allow you to transfer credits from accredited schools. By choosing an accredited online degree program, you’re choosing a program that is recognized not only by one or more educational agencies, but also other colleges, universities and employers.

If you try to seek employment after graduation from a program that’s not accredited, most employers will not want to hire you. This is because they may feel the education you received was not of acceptable education standards for the positions they have available. Furthermore, they have no way of qualifying if it’s genuine.

When choosing an online program, look for accreditation symbols on the school’s website. Most schools have a page devoted to accreditation. If you’re still unsure, you can contact the issuing agency to find out when the accreditation was given and if it is legit.

An online accredited degree is very important for your future. Whether you transfer to another school or you want to find a job, the school you attend can have an impact. Even though accreditation may not seem like much of an indication of the school’s academic offerings, it’s a good place to start when you want to find the best education investment of your time and money.

Symptoms of Heartburn – Differentiating Barretts Esophagitis and Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease

Mar 07
2010

When an individual suffers from symptoms of heartburn over extended periods of time and it is left untreated, this can lead to Barrett’s esophagus. The cell structure in the esophagus changes from a normal squamous cell lining to an abnormal columnar cell lining and becomes a risk factor for esophageal cancer. There are two types of esophageal cancer, squamous cell and adenocarcinoma. Adenocarcinoma is linked to GERD or symptoms of heartburn. Adenocarcinoma usually occurs in the lower third of the esophagus. The more severe, more frequent and the longer the symptoms of heartburn, the greater the risk of Barrett’s esophagus and adenocarcinoma.

There are many heartburn home remedies to alleviate symptoms of heartburn and the ensuing risk of Barrett’s esophagus or esophageal cancer. Below is a list of solutions which everyone with symptoms of heartburn should engage in.

- Certain foods can cause irritation to the esophagus and increase the stomach’s production of acid. Common irritants include spicy foods, fried foods, tomato sauces, fruit juices, chocolate, alcohol and caffeine.

- Eliminate tobacco, it decreases lower esophageal sphincter pressure and reduces salivary secretion.

- Avoid eating large meals, this stimulates sensors that affect lower esophageal sphincter relaxation.

- Avoid eating at least three hours before bedtime.

- Elevate your head and shoulders and avoid from laying flat at all times. This will help keep stomach contents from entering your esophagus.

- Eliminate sucking on candy or chewing on gum as these increase the amount of swallowed oxygen and lead to belching and symptoms of heartburn.

- Limit your intake of ibuprofen, aspirin and other anti-inflammatory medications which inhibit the formation of prostaglandins and increase symptoms of heartburn.

The following supplements have been known to be very beneficial in preventing the symptoms of heartburn and ensuing Barrett’s esophagus or esophageal cancer.

- Aloe Vera

- Chamomile

- Bladderwrack

- Cordydalis

- Fennel seed

- Licorice root

- Marshmallow

- Meadowsweet

- Slippery elm bark

- Turmeric root

- L-glutamine

- Digestive enzymes

Frequent heartburn over a long period of time can be an indication of other problems. An aggressive program of dietary supplementation should not be undertaken without the supervision of a qualified healthcare practitioner.

How To Save Money And Protect Yourself When Getting An Accredited College Degree

Mar 06
2010

Getting the right college degree can open the door to a bright future in the career that you wish to pursue, but there are things that you need to know in advance in order to save money and protect yourself. Here are some important reminders then to keep in mind.

First of all, if you are going to pursue a degree program, you need to make sure that it is a fully accredited course provided by an accredited school. This is more important than ever before as several websites have sprung up across the Internet that are designed to look like legitimate colleges and universities who are offering college degrees at bargain basement prices. However, they are really nothing more than education scams, or diploma mills, that hand out what amounts to a fake degree that is worth very little in the employment world.

Of course, you can find plenty of legitimate, fully accredited schools both online and off line that can give you a high quality education in whatever major that you choose. But before you sign up with any school to pursue your higher education, do your homework first and make sure that it is accredited with a legitimate well recognized accreditation agency.

It’s important that you not only verify the accreditation of the school itself that you are considering, but also the accreditation agency that recommends it. This is because these websites have now gone so far as to not only set up a phony school, but also fake accreditation agencies that appear to verify its curriculum. So don’t be deceived by any school’s apparent claims with regard to accreditation. Be sure to check it out yourself and know for a fact that the education you will receive at that school will be worth the investment that you make before signing up.

It’s actually pretty easy to establish the validity of the school, as you only have to go to the web site for the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or CHEA. This agency is not affiliated with the government, but helps coordinate research on accreditation issues. All you have to do is enter the name of the educational institution and they will tell you if it is accredited by a recognized legitimate accreditation agency or not. Just taking this one simple step can save you a lot of frustration and lost money.

You can also save money on pursuing an education degree if you have been in the military in the past, as there are plenty of options open to former military personnel through the GI Bill.

Another popular way of controlling education costs is to attend a community college in your area for the first two years and then transferring your credits over to a major college for your final degree. As long as the community college cooperates with the major colleges in the area, your credits should all transfer and you can usually save lots of money on the first two years of your education.

Hopefully these suggestions will help you be better prepared to find a college degree program that is not only fully accredited but also affordable as well.

An Accredited Online Degree Program is Worth it

Mar 05
2010

Finding an accredited online degree program can be a task these days. There are so many profit online based colleges that don’t focus on education, and how importance it is to give there students the same level taught degree as major universities. Start by looking at the distance education that your own state university has. If they do not offer the classes you want, then look at others. Most of the time, state universities will be less expensive than any for-profit online program that you might see offered on the internet.

Although there are hundreds of good online based schools, you have to make sure those are accredited classes. If they are not, then they aren’t worth anything. Accredited programs actually show up on your educational record as you taking college level online courses. These same classes can be transferred over to a major university if you decided to go to a brick a mortal college. Getting an degree is very well worth the effort. It saves loads of time and hassle if you were a work at home mom or anyone that really needs to stay at home. You can take actual credited classes without spending thousands on books and other ramped up fees that larger universities would do to you. You can easily find top ranked online colleges if you search around credible places on the internet.

They are great tools for getting jobs and adding to your educational portfolio. If you have a chance to take an online program, try it and see how you like it. Make sure you pick the right school based on your major and other factors that you might have. Picking a school that doesn’t have your major won’t help you any. Make sure the school offers that program before you apply. Getting a college degree is beneficial if you want to work at your own pace. If you want to work slow, that’s ok, just make sure you get your accredited online degree.
